Tim had finally married his long-time girlfriend, and after a beautiful wedding and a relaxing honeymoon, they returned home ready to begin their new life together.
One evening, Tim was in the garage carefully organizing his golfing gear. He cleaned his clubs, checked his gloves, arranged his golf balls, and smiled proudly at his collection.
His new wife stood nearby, watching him in silence for a while.
Finally, she crossed her arms and said, “Tim, I’ve been thinking.”
Tim looked up. “About what, sweetheart?”
“Well,” she said gently, “now that we’re married, maybe it’s time for you to make a few changes.”
Tim nodded cautiously.
She continued, “You spend so much time golfing. Maybe you should quit. You could sell your clubs, get a good price for them, and we could spend more weekends together.”
The smile disappeared from Tim’s face. He turned pale, froze completely, and stared at her as if she had just said something terrifying.
His wife noticed immediately.
“Darling,” she asked, concerned, “what’s wrong?”
Tim swallowed hard and said, “For a moment there, you sounded just like my ex-wife.”
His wife’s eyes widened.
“Ex-wife?” she cried. “I didn’t know you were married before!”
Tim looked at her and replied,
“I wasn’t.”
