Eleven people were hanging from a rope beneath a helicopter: ten men and one woman.
The problem was that the rope wasn’t strong enough to hold all of them for much longer. It was starting to stretch, the helicopter was shaking, and everyone realized that if one person didn’t let go, they would all fall.
They argued for a while, but nobody wanted to be the one to sacrifice themselves. Each person had a reason to stay alive, and the tension grew worse with every second.
Finally, the woman took a deep breath and spoke.
“I’ll let go,” she said. “All my life, as a woman, I’ve been used to making sacrifices. I’ve given up things for my husband, for my children, for my family, and many times for men in general. I’ve worked, helped, supported, and expected very little in return. So maybe it’s only fitting that I’m the one who makes the sacrifice now.”
Her words were so emotional that everyone went silent.
The men looked at her with respect, deeply moved by her courage and generosity.
And as soon as she finished her speech…
all ten men started clapping.
