Norman was an old retired sailor who had spent most of his life at sea.
One evening, feeling nostalgic, he opened his closet and found his old navy uniform. It was a little tighter than he remembered, the buttons were under pressure, and the hat sat slightly crooked, but Norman looked in the mirror and smiled.
“Still got it,” he said to himself.
So, for old time’s sake, he headed down to the docks, walking slowly but proudly.
The salty air, the sound of seagulls, and the sight of the boats made him feel young again.
After a while, Norman met a lady who seemed very impressed by his uniform.
“Well, hello there, sailor,” she said.
Norman stood a little straighter.
“Evening, miss.”
They chatted for a few minutes, and soon she invited him upstairs.
Norman followed, full of confidence and memories of his younger days.
A little later, trying his best but not feeling quite as legendary as he had hoped, Norman looked at her and asked, “So… how am I doing?”
The lady smiled sweetly and said, “Well, Norman, you old sailor, I’d say you’re doing about three knots.”
Norman frowned.
“Three knots? What’s that supposed to mean?”
She patted him on the shoulder and said:
“You’re knot hard, you’re knot in, and you’re knot getting your money back.”
