A teacher was giving her third-grade class a lesson on good manners. She decided to make it interactive and asked,
“Michael, if you were on a dinner date with a nice young lady, how would you politely let her know you need to use the restroom?”
Michael sat up confidently and replied, “I’d just say, ‘Hang on, I need to go pee.’”
The teacher sighed and shook her head. “No, Michael, that’s not polite. Let’s try again. Sherman, how would you handle the situation?”
Sherman thought carefully and answered, “I’d say, ‘I’m sorry, but I really need to use the restroom. I’ll be back shortly.’”
The teacher nodded approvingly. “That’s better, Sherman, but it’s still not quite appropriate to mention the restroom at the dinner table. Johnny, what about you? Can you show us how to handle this with perfect manners?”
Johnny’s face lit up with a mischievous grin. He replied, “I’d say: ‘Darling, may I please be excused for a moment? I need to shake hands with a very dear friend of mine, and I’d love to introduce you to him after dinner.’”
The classroom fell silent for a moment before bursting into laughter.
The teacher, however, didn’t say a word—she fainted right then and there.
