An exclusive all-girls private school in New York State recently faced a rather unusual problem.
A number of 12-year-old girls had started wearing lipstick to school. That wasn’t the issue… the problem was that after applying it in the restroom, they would press their lips to the mirrors, leaving dozens of bright red lip prints behind. ![]()
Every night, the poor janitor had to scrub them off. And every day, the prints returned.
Finally, the head teacher decided enough was enough.
She gathered all the girls in the bathroom, along with the very tired-looking janitor, who was holding a long-handled cleaning brush.
She explained how much extra work those lip prints were causing and asked the janitor to demonstrate just how difficult the mirrors were to clean.
Without saying a word, he took the long-handled brush… dipped it into the toilet water… swirled it around… and then used it to scrub the mirror. ![]()

From that day on, there were no more lip prints on the mirrors.
