A middle-aged couple had two beautiful daughters, and they loved them dearly. Still, for years they had talked about how wonderful it would be to have a son.
Finally, they decided to try one last time.
Months later, the wife gave birth to a healthy baby boy. The father was overjoyed. He rushed down the hospital hallway, excited to finally meet the son he had always dreamed of.
But when he looked into the nursery, his smile disappeared.
The baby was healthy, but to him, he was the ugliest child he had ever seen.
Shocked, the father hurried back to his wife’s room.
“I don’t understand this,” he said. “There is no way I can be the father of that baby.”
His wife looked at him calmly. “What are you talking about?”
“Look at our two daughters,” he said. “They’re beautiful, and I’m their father. But this baby boy… have you been fooling around behind my back?”
His wife smiled sweetly and replied,
“Not this time.”
