Shoplifting

A woman stood before the magistrate for shoplifting. Being a kleptomaniac, she was well-known to the judge.

“What is it this time, Mrs. Jones?” asked the judge.

“A tin of peaches,” she replied sheepishly.

“And how many peaches were in the tin?” inquired the judge.

“Six, I think,” said Mrs. Jones.

“Then it’s six nights in jail—one for each peach,” declared the judge.

Just then, her husband, Mr. Jones, raised his hand and spoke up.

“Excuse me, Your Honour… On the way here this morning, she also stole two tins of peas.”
